What is Nano C?

Nano C is a vitamin C supplement that uses nano-technology to increase the absorption of vitamin C. The supplement claims to fortify your body’s immune system using tiny vitamin C molecules. Because these vitamin C molecules are smaller than ordinary vitamin C, your body can absorb them more easily.

Nano C is made by Zenith Labs, which offers a range of supplements targeting different areas of health, including heart health, brain health, and men’s health supplements.

Unlike a multivitamin or similar supplement, Nano C comes in the form of a liquid. You place drops of Nano C underneath your tongue each morning. You could also mix it into a beverage or shake, although Zenith Labs recommends placing it underneath your tongue.

Each bottle of Nano C is priced at $50. You can buy it through ZenithLabs.com. Sales of Nano C seem to have surged with the COVID-19 pandemic as people look for new ways to support their immune system.

How Does Nano C Work?

Nano C claims to support your immune system using a highly bioavailable form of vitamin C. Ordinary vitamin C has a large molecule. Nano C uses a small molecule. Your body absorbs small molecules more easily, which means more vitamin C ultimately ends up in your bloodstream.

After vitamin C enters your bloodstream, it promotes a rapid immune cell response to viruses and bacteria, targeting contagious pathogens in as little as 30 minutes.

Other key methods of action with Nano C include:

Fortifies the body’s immune system

Made with nanotechnology to enhance absorption

Promotes production of antibodies

Aids faster recovery from viruses and bacterial infections

Comes in an easy-to-use liquid dropper

You take the liquid vitamin C supplement, and the supplement goes to work within as little as 30 minutes. By taking Nano C daily, you can purportedly “supercharge your immune system”, reduce your recovery from colds and other viruses, and reduce the risk of catching a respiratory infection in the first place.

Zenith Labs claims 3 in 4 Americans have suboptimal levels of vitamin C. That means weak immune systems and other downsides.

Why does molecule size matter? Is Nano C really more easily absorbed by your body?

The company claims that the vitamin C in foods, drinks, and ordinary supplements is “too big to pass through your gut lining immediately”, which means your body cannot absorb 100% of the vitamin C within your foods and supplements.

“The average vitamin C particle is 10,000 nanometers wide,” explains Zenith Labs on the Nano C sales page. “Whereas the openings in your gut lining are only 100 nanometers wide. It’s like trying to fit a 5ft-beach ball through a garden hose.”

Each serving of Nano C contains 500mg of vitamin C in the form of sodium ascorbate, giving you 556% of your daily value (DV) of vitamin C in each 1mL serving.

Nano C Ingredients

Nano C contains just one active ingredient: 500mg of vitamin C (sodium ascorbate).

Other inactive ingredients include water and natural orange flavor.

Scientific Evidence for Nano C

Zenith Labs has not run any clinical trials or scientific studies on Nano C. However, the company cites third party studies examining vitamin C and the immune system.

Multiple studies have shown that vitamin C can positively impact immunity. Some studies show that taking vitamin C can reduce the length of illness symptoms, for example. Other studies have shown that vitamin C reduces the risk of catching an illness in the first place.

This 2005 study showed that vitamin C could treat and prevent the common cold. Researchers analyzed 55 studies over a 65 year period, concluding that vitamin C had a significant impact on the common cold, reducing the severity and duration of symptoms.

This 2017 study showed that vitamin C specifically supported immune function. Researchers found that vitamin C contributed to immune defense by supporting cellular functions. Researchers also found that vitamin C supported the epithelial barrier function against pathogens and promoted the oxidant scavenging capacity of the skin, both of which support immune health.

It’s true that many Americans are deficient in vitamin C. However, vitamin C deficiency seems much less common than Zenith Labs claims (they mention that 76% Americans aren’t getting enough vitamin C). Zenith Labs cites this 2009 study that showed just 13% of the United States population was deficient in vitamin C – much less than the deficiency claimed.

There is, however, an interesting connection between vitamin C deficiency and mortality. This 2000 study found that American adults deficient in vitamin C had an increased risk of dying from cancer or cardiovascular disease.

There’s some evidence vitamin C supports the immune system, but other evidence is less conclusive. As one Harvard Medical School professor explained, “the findings of a large number of studies on the subject are mixed”. Some studies have shown that vitamin C is significantly better than a placebo for reducing illness time. Other studies have shown that vitamin C performed no better than a placebo.

Zenith Labs also cites research supporting its claims about nano-technology and absorption. The company cites this 2008 study published in the International Journal of Pharmaceutics, for example, that showed nanoemulsions of an antioxidant formula had enhanced bioavailability than substances with a larger molecule size. This better bioavailability led to higher antioxidant capacity. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, so it’s possible smaller vitamin C particles are genuinely easier for your body to absorb.

As further evidence, Zenith Labs cites this 2014 study showing it’s easier for your body to absorb iron when using nanoparticulates. The study found iron was well absorbed and used by humans when delivered in nanoparticulate form.

Overall, Zenith Labs cites studies showing that vitamin C supports immunity in various ways. They also cite studies showing that nano-molecules are easier for your body to absorb than ordinary molecules. Based on all of this evidence, it seems likely that Nano C is more bioavailable than an ordinary vitamin C supplement.
